Licensing

MMCA is an Open Standard Memory Card Organization. Members have no royalty obligations to the MMCA.

Copyrights of the MMC Standard specifications are licensed and made available to all members by the association. Manufacturers of card products based on the MMC Standard must be a member of the MMCA. Selected specifications are also available for purchase by non-members for use in the manufacturing of host devices and other non-card products.

The MMCA aims to promote the MultiMediaCard standards in the marketplace. The use of the association's trademarks and logos on products and materials associated with the MMC standards, are recommended and encouraged, but it is not mandatory. The following trademark and logo licensing agreements are required for the use of the association's trademarks and logos:

• MMCA LOGO LICENSE AGREEMENT: for the use of the official MMCA marks. (For members only.)
• MULTIMEDIACARD TRADEMARK LICENSE AGREEMENT: for the use of the MMC plus™ and MMCmobile™ trademarks and logos. (This agreement is also applicable to members and non-members.)

Compliance

The goals of the MMCA are to achieve broad market acceptance of the MMC Card. The MMCA must ensure a high level of compliance of the MMC card products to the MMC Specification to achieve this market acceptance. Therefore, the MMCA has published this Compliance Policy which describes a self certification method for MMC card manufacturers to verify their products are compliant with the MMC Specification.

MMC card manufacturers that are successful in passing the compliance tests will be certified to use the MMCA logo on their products. The use of the MMCA logo as a compliance mark is an important tool to help customers identify the MMC card products that are compliant to the MMC specification.

• MultiMediaCard Compliance Trademark: A trademark logo is licensed by the MMCA to members, who are card manufacturers, to show their MultiMediaCard product is compliant. This mark can be used on compliant cards only.   Card manufacturers must pass certification before using this mark.  Once card manufacturer is certified, they have the right to display this mark on the card only. The MultiMediaCard Compliance Trademark may NOT be used on any other materials.
• MultiMediaCard Compliance Trademark Sublicensing: The MMCA also offers sublicense terms for the use of the compliance trademark logo by OEM's who purchase card products for resale from card manufacturers who have certified their card products under the MMCA Compliance Program, and has licensed the use of the compliance trademark. The sublicensing agreement is established between a MMCA certified card manufacturer and its sub-licensees.
